Local SEO that gets you found

Three listings sit above the search results for every local search that matters to your business. Getting into those three is the highest value thing most North East businesses can do online.

Why you are not in the Map Pack

The three listings at the top are chosen on relevance, distance and prominence. Most businesses are losing on prominence.

The profile is half finished

No service list, no categories, two photos from 2019 and no posts. Google reads an incomplete profile as a less active business.

Not enough recent reviews

Reviews are a ranking factor and a trust factor. A business with 40 recent reviews beats one with 12 from three years ago.

The website does not back it up

Google checks whether your site supports what the profile claims. No service pages, no location pages, nothing to confirm.

You are outside the centre

Distance matters, so a business on the edge of a city has to work harder on everything else to appear in searches from the middle.

What this looks like when it works

Two scans of the same business taken across the North East, before we started and after a few months of the monthly work. Every pin is a point on the map, and the number on it is where the business ranked when someone searched from that exact spot.

Before. Average position 17.4, invisible to anyone searching more than a mile or two away.
The same ranking scan after the work, averaging position 1.3 across the North East
After. Average position 1.3, in the map pack right across the patch.

What local SEO covers

Monthly work across the three things Google uses to pick those three listings.

Google Business Profile

Categories, services, hours, attributes, photos and weekly posts. Kept active rather than set up once and forgotten.

Review strategy

A simple system for asking, so reviews arrive steadily, plus replies to every one of them, which Google notices.

Location pages

A proper page for each town you serve, written rather than duplicated, so you have something to rank in each area.

Local citations

Your name, address and phone number consistent across the directories that matter, and the inconsistencies cleaned up.

On page and technical

Service pages, schema, internal linking and speed, so the site supports what the profile is claiming.

Rank tracking by area

Tracking that shows where you rank from different points in your patch, not just one average number.

What Google is actually choosing between

When somebody searches for a service near them, Google shows three businesses on a map above everything else. Those three places are what local SEO is competing for, and they are decided on a different set of signals to the blue links underneath.

roofer near me The map pack Three places. That is all there is. Decided on your profile, your reviews, and how close you are to the searcher. Everything below is the ordinary results, where your website does the work.

How the work runs

1

Audit

Where you currently rank across your service area, how your profile compares to the three above you, and what is missing.

2

Fix the foundations

Profile, citations, service pages and the technical basics, in the first month.

3

Build prominence

Location pages, content, posts and reviews, month on month. This is the part that moves you up.

4

Report and adjust

Monthly reporting on rankings by area, calls, direction requests and enquiries.

What actually moves the needle

After 260 builds and a lot of local campaigns, these are the things that consistently work.

  • Reviews, steadily. Ten reviews over ten months beats thirty in one week, which looks bought to Google and to customers.
  • Real photos. Your vans, your team, your finished jobs. Stock photos on a profile do nothing.
  • A page per town. One page listing twenty areas ranks for none of them.
  • Answer the questions. The questions feature on your profile is a ranking surface most businesses ignore.
  • Match your details everywhere. The same business name, address and phone number on every listing, down to the punctuation.
  • Keep it active. Posts, photos and replies tell Google the business is alive. Dormant profiles drift down.

Local SEO questions

How long does it take to get into the Map Pack?

Three to six months is typical, quicker in less competitive trades and towns. Profile fixes sometimes move things within weeks.

Do I need a website for this to work?

Yes. The profile and the website support each other, and a profile with nothing behind it struggles against businesses with proper service pages.

What if my business has no address, only a service area?

That is fine and very common. Service area businesses can rank in the Map Pack, and we set the profile up accordingly.

Can you help get reviews?

Yes. We set up a simple way to ask at the right moment, and we reply to every review, which matters more than most people realise.

Do you cover more than one town?

Yes. Each area gets its own page, written properly, and we track rankings from different points across your patch.

Is this the same as SEO?

Local SEO is the part aimed at the map and local results. Broader SEO targets terms with no location attached, and most local businesses need the local work first.
