Why most sites never rank

Nearly every site we audit has the same handful of problems, and none of them are a mystery.

The pages do not exist

You sell six services and have one page covering all of them. Google has nothing specific to rank, so it ranks somebody who wrote a page for each.

Nobody checked the technical side

Slow pages, broken redirects, missing titles, pages blocked from being indexed. Unglamorous, and the reason plenty of sites never get going.

The content answers nothing

Pages written to fill space rather than to answer what somebody typed. Google has become very good at telling the difference.

It stopped after launch

SEO is not a setting you switch on. The sites above you are the ones that have kept at it for two years.

What this looks like when it works

Two scans of the same business taken across the North East, before we started and after a few months of the monthly work. Every pin is a point on the map, and the number on it is where the business ranked when someone searched from that exact spot.

Local ranking scan before the work, averaging position 17.4 across the North East
Before. Average position 17.4, invisible to anyone searching more than a mile or two away.
The same ranking scan after the work, averaging position 1.3 across the North East
After. Average position 1.3, in the map pack right across the patch.

What the monthly work involves

Every plan covers the same ground. How much of each depends on what your site needs.

Keyword strategy

We work out what your customers actually type, which of those terms you can realistically win, and which are worth the effort. Tracked monthly so you can see movement.

Technical SEO

Speed, crawling, indexing, redirects, structured data and Core Web Vitals. The foundations that decide whether any of the rest has a chance.

On page work

Titles, meta descriptions, headings, internal linking and content rewritten for the terms each page should own.

New content

Service pages, location pages and articles that answer real questions, written to be read rather than stuffed with phrases.

Local signals

Google Business Profile, citations and reviews, because local results are where most of the enquiries come from.

Reporting you can read

Rankings, traffic and enquiries each month, in plain English, with what we did and what is next.

How the work runs

1

Audit

A full technical and content audit of where you stand, what is holding you back and which terms are worth going after.

2

Plan

A twelve month outline with the first ninety days in detail, so you know what is happening and in what order.

3

Execute

Monthly work on the technical fixes, the pages and the content, with everything logged.

4

Report and adjust

Monthly reporting on rankings, traffic and enquiries, and the plan adjusted around what is working.

What we will not do

Plenty of SEO is sold on things that do not work or do not last.

  • Buy links. Paid link schemes are against Google guidelines and the penalty lands on you, not the agency that sold them.
  • Write for robots. Keyword stuffed pages read badly and have not worked for years.
  • Hide behind jargon. If a report needs translating, it is not a report.
  • Lock you in. Monthly plans, cancel with a month of notice. The work should keep you, not the contract.
  • Promise position one. Nobody can promise rankings. Anyone who does is guessing or lying.
  • Take the job regardless. If your market is too competitive for the budget, we will say so before you spend anything.

SEO questions

How long before I see results?

Usually three to six months for meaningful movement, sometimes sooner on local terms with low competition. Anyone promising week one results is selling something else.

Do I have to sign a long contract?

No. Plans run monthly with a month of notice. SEO takes time to work, but that is a reason to be patient, not a reason to be locked in.

Will you guarantee position one?

No, and be wary of anyone who does. We will tell you which terms are realistic, track them monthly and show you the movement.

Can you work on a site you did not build?

Yes, most of our SEO clients came with a site already. If the build is holding the SEO back we will tell you rather than take the fee anyway.

What if I already rank well?

Then the job is defending it and finding the terms you are missing. The audit will show whether there is room worth paying for.

Is SEO included when you build a site?

The foundations are, as standard. The ongoing work of earning rankings is a separate monthly service.
