Setting up your email account

The short version

  • Your email works through the Stackmail webmail portal, which you can reach from any browser.
  • Outlook usually configures itself from your address and password using Auto-Discover.
  • Even when fields auto-populate, clear them and type the username and password in by hand. That solves most failed setups.
  • There are short video walkthroughs for iPhone, Android and Outlook if you would rather follow along.

If you’ve got a new email account with us, this guide will help you get everything set up quickly and smoothly.

Whether you’re using Outlook, iPhone, Android, or another email client, follow the steps below to get started.

Accessing your email online

You can access your email anytime through the Stackmail webmail portal:

Go to Stackmail Webmail

Setting up your email in Microsoft Outlook

We use ‘Auto-Discover’ technology, which means that in most cases, Outlook can configure your email automatically with just your email address and password.

Important, be sure to fill in ALL fields for username / password even if they auto-populate, remove and add them manually.

Automatic setup

  1. Open Outlook and go to the File tab.
  2. Under Account Information, click Add Account.
  3. Enter your name, email address, and password.
  4. Click Next and let Outlook set up your account.
  5. Once completed, click Finish.

Manual setup (if automatic setup fails)

If Outlook doesn’t automatically configure your email, you can set it up manually using the following settings:

IMAP (Recommended)

  • Account type: IMAP
  • Incoming mail server: imap.stackmail.com
  • Outgoing mail server: smtp.stackmail.com
  • Incoming server port (IMAP): 993
  • Encryption: SSL
  • Outgoing server port (SMTP): 465
  • Encryption: SSL/TLS

Important

  • Go to More Settings > Outgoing Server and check the box for ‘My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication’.
  • If you get a certificate warning, disable SSL/TLS encryption and change the incoming server port to 143.

POP3 (Not recommended)

  • Account type: POP3
  • Incoming mail server: pop3.stackmail.com
  • Outgoing mail server: smtp.stackmail.com
  • Incoming server port (POP3): 995
  • Encryption: SSL
  • Outgoing server port (SMTP): 465
  • Encryption: SSL/TLS

IMAP is recommended over POP3 because it keeps emails stored on the server, allowing access from multiple devices.

Resetting your password

If you’ve forgotten your password or need to change it, follow these steps:

  1. Go to Stackmail Webmail.
  2. Navigate to Settings.
  3. Select Password and enter a new password.

Setting up an out-of-office reply

If you’re going away and need an automatic reply, set up an out-of-office message:

  1. Go to Stackmail Webmail.
  2. Navigate to Settings.
  3. Select Vacation.
  4. Toggle the notification on and enter your message, start date, and end date.
