Our Proven Website Process from Start to Finish
Thinking about getting a new website built can feel like a big deal. Our WordPress process is designed to take the stress out of it. You may have had a bad experience before, or heard a horror story about a designer who disappeared, a project that dragged on for months, or a site that looked nothing like what was promised.
What is covered
- Our WordPress process at a glance
- Step 1: The discovery call
- Step 2: A clear, written proposal
- Step 3: Design and build
- Step 4: Review and launch
- Step 5: Ongoing support

We get it. That is why we follow the same clear website process on every project. No surprises, no jargon, no guesswork. Just a clear path from “I need a website” to a finished site that is live, working and bringing in enquiries. Here is exactly how it works, step by step.
Our WordPress process at a glance
- A free 30-minute discovery call
- A clear, written fixed-price proposal
- Design and build on a private staging site
- Review, revisions and launch
- Ongoing support and care
Each stage of the website process has a clear purpose and a clear output, so you always know where your project stands and what happens next.

Step 1: The discovery call
Our WordPress process always starts with a conversation. We will jump on a call, usually around 30 minutes, and talk about your business, what you are trying to achieve and what is not working right now.
This is not a sales pitch. It is genuinely us working out whether we can help and what the best approach would be. We will look at your current website together if you have one, talk about your competitors and get a feel for what kind of site would actually move the needle for your business.
By the end of the call you will have a clear idea of what we would recommend and roughly what it would involve. If we are not the right fit, we will say so. There is no point wasting anyone’s time.
Key point: the call is free, there is no obligation, and we will give you honest advice whether you work with us or not.
How to get the most from the call
- Have a rough list of the services you want to promote
- Note two or three competitor or example websites you like, and why
- Think about what a good enquiry looks like for you: a call, a booking or a quote request
Step 2: A clear, written proposal
The second stage of the website process is paperwork you can actually read. Within a few days of our call, you will receive a written proposal. Not a vague estimate, but a proper document that spells out exactly what we will build, what it includes, what it costs and how long it will take.
Our proposals break everything down page by page, so you can see where the time and money is going. There is no “phase 2 pricing to follow”. The number you see is the number you pay.
- Fixed prices: not hourly rates and not estimates, but a price that will not change.
- Clear payment terms: your payment schedule is set out in writing in your proposal before any work starts.
- No lock-in: you own everything, including the domain, design and content.
Your proposal will show exactly where your project sits.
Step 3: Design and build
Once you have signed off the proposal, we get to work. This part of the WordPress process is not a black box. You are involved throughout.
We set up a staging site, a private version of your website that you can visit and click around at any time. As we build each section, you can see it taking shape. There is no waiting weeks for a big reveal that might be completely wrong.
- Design concepts: we show you the design direction early so we are aligned before building everything out.
- Content: we help you get your copy right, advise on images and write calls to action that work.
- SEO foundations: page titles, meta descriptions, heading structure, schema markup, image optimisation and site speed are built in from day one.
- Mobile first: we design for phones first, then scale up, because that is where most of your visitors are.
In our WordPress process, the build typically takes 10 days depending on the size of the project, and most brochure sites launch within a few weeks. The biggest variable is usually content. The sooner we have your text and images, the sooner we can build.
Why we build on WordPress
WordPress is flexible, widely supported and easy to update once you know your way around. It also has extensive official documentation, so you are never tied to one person to understand how your site works.
NE1 Web Design & SEO Offer
Free 30-minute discovery call
Talk through your website with the person who will actually build it. Honest advice on what you need, a fixed-price proposal if you want one, and no pressure either way.
Step 4: Review and launch
Before anything goes live, the website process includes a proper walkthrough with you. We go through every page, check every link, test every form and make sure you are completely happy.
The WordPress process also includes two structured rounds of design revisions, so changes are planned rather than open-ended. The site only goes live when you say it is ready. On launch day, we handle:
- DNS and domain setup
- SSL certificate installation
- Google Analytics 4 and Search Console connected
- 301 redirects from your old site, if applicable
- Final speed and mobile testing
- Content management training so you can update things yourself
Redirects matter more than most people realise. If you are replacing an older site, Google’s guidance on site moves with URL changes explains why mapping old pages to new ones protects the visibility you have already earned.
Every site we build is set up for local search from day one, because a great-looking site is no use if nobody can find it.

Step 5: Ongoing support
Launch day is not the end of the WordPress process. It is really just the beginning.
- UK green hosting and daily off-site backups
- 24/7 security monitoring and malware scans
- WordPress core, theme and plugin updates, plus pro plugin licences
- Email and phone support, and four 30-minute content tasks a month
You would not buy a car and never service it. A website is the same. The care plan is optional and you still own everything, but most clients find it worth it for the peace of mind.
What makes our WordPress process different?
We have built 252+ websites, and every project has taught us something about what works. Here is where we have landed:
- No surprises. The price in your proposal is the price you pay, with no hidden extras.
- Fixed pricing. If we underestimate something, that is on us, not you.
- You deal with the person building it. No account managers and no handoffs between departments.
- Honest advice. If you do not need a new website, or your money would be better spent on SEO, we will say so.
Who this website process works best for
Our WordPress process is designed for local businesses that need a website to do a job, not just look nice. We work with tradespeople, salons, clinics, restaurants, professional services and anyone who relies on local customers finding them online.
If you are a plumber in Durham who needs phone calls, a pilates studio in Newcastle that needs class bookings or an estate agent in Northumberland that needs vendor leads, that is our sweet spot. You can see examples in our portfolio, and our free local SEO audit is a good place to start if search is your main concern.
