Websites for retail and e-commerce

Independent shops, delis, boutiques and online stores. Our websites for retail turn browsers into buyers, whether that means a visit to the shop, a click and collect order or a sale through the checkout at midnight.

Shop or online

Built for footfall, online sales or both.

Mobile checkout

Stores built for buying on a phone.

Products found

Descriptions written to rank on Google.

Easy to run

Add stock and offers without calling us.

Why most shop websites do not sell

Most retailers we speak to have a website that looks fine on a laptop, then loses people somewhere between the product page and the till.

Too many taps to buy

Every extra step at the checkout is a chance for the customer to give up and go elsewhere. On a phone, it happens fast.

Product pages with nothing on them

A manufacturer’s description and one small photo will not rank, and will not convince anyone either.

Opening hours and directions buried

For a shop with a door, the most important thing on the site is often when you are open and how to find you.

Hard to update

If adding a new line or changing a price means emailing someone, the site soon falls out of date.

What websites for retail need

Every one of our websites for retail starts from how your customers actually buy, then works back to the pages and features that support it.

A checkout built for phones

Short, clear and quick to complete, with Apple Pay and Google Pay where your platform supports them.

Product pages that sell

Proper photos, honest descriptions, sizes, delivery and returns, all answered before the customer has to ask.

Click and collect

For shops with a counter, an easy way to order online and pick up in person.

Opening times and finding you

Hours, address, parking and a map, kept up to date and easy to spot on a phone.

Offers you can change yourself

Seasonal promotions, new stock and events added in minutes from a simple dashboard.

Shopify or WooCommerce

We recommend the platform that suits your catalogue and how you want to run it, then build on that.

The Diving Centre website, an e-commerce website built by NE1

Getting found by local shoppers

Websites for retail have two jobs on Google: showing up when people nearby search for what you sell, and getting your products seen by buyers further afield.

  • Google Business Profile. For a shop with a door, the map listing often brings in more visits than the website itself. See our Google Business Profile page and Google’s own guide to local rankings.
  • Product and category pages. Written around the words customers actually type, so the right page appears for the right search.
  • Local SEO. Getting your shop into the map results for searches in your town. See local SEO.
  • Google Ads. When you want sales quickly, product ads put your stock in front of buyers. See Google Ads.

Websites for retail: your questions

How much do websites for retail cost?

Shop front websites start from £2,397, or from £197 a month. Online shops are quoted on the brief, because the number of products, payment options and delivery setup make a real difference to the work involved.

Shopify or WooCommerce, which is better?

It depends on your catalogue and how hands on you want to be. Shopify is simpler to run day to day, while WooCommerce gives more control and has no monthly platform fee. We recommend one based on your shop, not our preference.

Can you move my existing shop to a new platform?

Yes. We move products, customers and order history where the platforms allow it, and redirect old product pages so you keep the rankings you have built.

Can I add products and offers myself?

Yes. Every shop comes with a simple dashboard and a walkthrough, so adding stock, changing prices and running offers does not need us.

I only have a physical shop. Do I need online sales?

Not always. Many independents do better with a fast shop front website that shows what you stock, when you are open and how to find you, alongside a strong Google Business Profile.

How long does a shop website take?

A shop front website is usually live in around ten days. Online shops take a little longer, depending on how many products need setting up.
